Fifteen years later, one can appreciate that ML's gaze was directed to the future. His occult background in modern esoteric Qabalism let him see where my pioneering work might lead, and I simply did not have the advantage of such a perspective. I had to wait years for unfoldment, with much grinding struggle. What I am setting down here is nevertheless a salute to Meade Layne. Nobody in the history of Ufology has equalled his prescience.

One of the most important facts to grasp in connection with UFO's is that heat is the Fourth State of Matter, and not merely a vibratory means of affecting the solid, liquid and gaseous states of matter - the officially recognized triad. My infrared photographs, being made with infrared film (sensitive to invisible radiation) demonstrated that there is a range of form and substance standing above the aeroform state of matter and interpenetrating the aeroform state. One cannot ocularly perceive heat directly, so heat sensitive materials have to be employed to objectify these otherwise invisible aeroforms. A steady training of the physical vision to extend it slightly, combined with occult exercises to form the organs of perception in the astral body, will eventually provide marginal but nevertheless direct perception of these heat creatures first photographed by me in the summer of 1957.
The remaining aspect of the experimental work is getting such aeroforms to manifest where you are - to bring them "down to Malkuth" in the Qabalist's expression. The experimenter must find a way to make himself, or his site of operations, stand out from the random psychic racket of planet earth.
This was achieved through protracted repetitions of the Star Exercise - a tried and true procedure from rudimentary ceremonial magic. In terms comprehensible to anyone with even a slight knowledge of vital energy or "bioenergetics" as it is now called, one makes of oneself a bioenergetic beacon, radiating patterns of energy - rhythmic impacts in the ethers that will attract elemental forms much as a lighthouse attracts moths.
At the upper border of physical nature, in the sphere of the warmth-ether, one enters a highly functional and powerfully biological realm where objects are not gravity-bound, but rather, levity-bound, i.e. tending to fly away to the periphery rather than be drawn to the center of the earth. These objects move with lightning speed, and do not with purported laws of heat and light promulgated by official sources. Such objects can be unequivocally recorded on film emulsions and also on videotapes. Their elusive character - their non-terrestrial nature, as it were - is demonstrated by their frequent disappearance from film emulsions while a newly developed film is drying. I have lost many incredible critters this way, including one monster proceeding alongside an airliner wingtip at 35,000 feet.
All this indicates that "they" are extremely difficult to catch. Only by mingling esoteric knowledge with modern photochemistry did it prove possible to capture them repeatedly on both stills and movies. Understanding the extreme dynamism of the warmth ether was indispensable to this work. Years of experience taught the value and the validity of classical etherian physics, and the [17] life-killing encumbrance of so-called classical physics and its stationary ether (singular).
As an on-the-spot detector for the objects, Dr. Jim Woods and myself had to employ yet another aspect of esoteric knowledge - the Eye Beam or Visual Ray. New that Kirlian photography is catching up with Wilhelm Reich and Rudolf Steiner - at least getting into the fringe of their work - the Visual Ray no longer seems quite so staggering a part of experimental work as it did in the late nineteen fifties. Renown awaits the Kirlian photographer who first objectifies the Visual Ray.
Formal knowledge conceives of the human eye as a passive device, always depicted as analogous to a camera. In actual fact, the eyes emit coherent beams of chemical ether, which unite into one major beam guided by the master eye. The eye is therefore just as much a radar set as it is a camera, for it is the Visual Ray that puts consciousness out into space. Our procedure was simple: Use the sports-finder on the camera to frame the surrounding terrain, sending the Visual Ray out through the center of the sports finder. Once one is aware of the existence of the Visual Ray, this remarkable bioenergetic agent can be used as a most effective "feeler" into the imperceptible physical where UFO's have their physical habitat. Impacts are instantly conveyed by the Visual Ray when it intersects any highly charged body. There is no need to actually see the object in the regular visual range. Indeed, our methods were designed from the outset to capture true UFO'S in situ, i.e. in the invisible.
We were really chasing ML's "ether ships" with methods rooted in the realities of etherian physics. Success came not because we were men of genius, but simply because this approach was, and is, lawful. This is the reason that two men, without outside financial assistance, were able to record many times - and in a mutually corroborative fashion that defies contradiction or dismissal - bioforms existing in the realm of heat-substance, "heat-stuff" in ML's expression.
In this same supersensible bailiwick we also found, and objectified, space ships. Conclusions could be reasonably drawn about their propulsion from these photographs. The major conclusion permitted is that the vehicles are propelled by manipulations of the ethers, and especially the warmth, light and chemical ethers. Both the bioforms and the spaceships plied the same invisible realms in accordance with the same laws. Naturally, in their sporadic visits to the visible spectrum, bioforms and spaceships have been mutually confused since the days of Kenneth Arnold. We confront new laws in this work. We sought to harmonize our work with those laws.
The big-name investigators with the big budgets-persisted in looking in the wrong place and in the wrong way for the keys to the mystery. In addition, they have always been neurotically overborne by their compulsive aversion to anything rooted in basic life processes. The UFO's inevitably lead there.
