"Of major importance to us all is the information Dr. Puharich brought to us in his talk "A Way To Peace". On July 4, 1976, the Soviet Union unleashed a new weapon on the world, an 11 Hertz signal. Radio communications around the world were upset; many countries rebelled. Dr. Puharich and a network of scientists monitored and tested these ELF (Extreme Low Frequency) signals.

"They found that these low harmonic frequencies affect the brain; thus human behavior can be controlled. ELF waves of the proper frequency can cause people to riot, or to become depressed. THE EARTH GRID AND PSYCHOACTIVE FREQUENCY 7.812 HERTZ

"I have found the enclosed ELF device circuit gives the best results to date. I make them for $25 NZ each, which is really quite a good value. "The 'National Catholic Reporter', the liberal Catholic weekly, filed suit in Federal Court in Washington in March 1980 to try to force the Justice Department to release details of the FBI's contacts over two decades with the Vatican. The FBI in 1978 turned down the newspaper's request for material for the period 1957 to 1977, made under the Freedom of Information Act. A multi-choice reply form was sent asserting that the seven pages in the Vatican file were 'currently and properly classified. . . in the interests of the national defense or foreign policy'. The Justice Department later denied an appeal from the FBI ruling, stating that the material is 'not appropriate for discretionary release'.

"Mark Winarski, Washington correspondent for the Kansas City-based newspaper, termed the denial and the appeal decision 'ludicrous'. Winarski said he had no specific material in mind when he initially filed his request for information, but 'We wanted to find out how the government talks to the Vatican and vice versa'. Previously, the NCR had asked for and received the file dealing with its own activities. [24] Winarski said he also planned to file a Freedom of Information request for a record of the CIA's contacts with the Vatican." ("Church and State Magazine", March 1980)

BUT THERE IS FROM THE "OTHER SIDE"

"Can you tell us about international affairs?" asked Harriet Foster.

"Friends, things are pretty bad in the international field," replied Charles Lingford. "It's just a touch-and-go situation. I warn you people, it's hair-trigger stuff. If it ever gets going before you do, you'll never get out of the town you are in!"

"You are referring to the Russian situation?" asked Meade Layne. "Didn't you tell us recently that you thought Stalin did not want war?"

"Yes, and I still think so; but there are factions in this country who are interested in stamping Russia down in a 'cold war' where she will be afraid to say anything, or of causing her to start a shooting war -- or make it appear that she is starting it. You have such factions in countries on both sides. But, hair-trigger as the situation may be, I think war will not break out unless certain people in this country press it. And the reason they will press it is because they wish to get back and hold the millions of Russians under their sway again -- and I mean the Roman Catholic Church. You do not know what is going on in that Church -- what the Jesuit priests are doing!"

This excerpt from a Mark Probert seance of Nov. 13, 1948 (BSRF No. 8-F, $3.00 postpaid) illustrates why the government must keep secret its relations with the Vatican; but it also illustrates the extreme dangers of opening up communication with the so-called dead -- as advocated by George Meek and his Metascience group in Franklin, North Carolina. Suppose you are successful in building a Vidicom, and Martin Luther King, Jr., comes through and names names of the government spooks who engineered his assassination, and demands justice. What are you going to do with the information? Of course if the martyred black leader has any consideration for his channel he will be extremely discreet in releasing information which might bring immediate retaliation, harassment, character assassination, etc.

Back in November 1963, Peter Hurkos -- one of Dr. Andrija Puharich's more prominent "superkids" -- was on tour demonstrating his exceptional psychic powers. During one show he publicly boasted that he could identify the assassins of President Kennedy. While driving to his next engagement he was stopped by the Wisconsin highway patrol, arrested for speeding and thrown in the nearest jail. There, no doubt, he was visited by nameless, faceless 007s of some agency and given a stern warning; for when he was released and allowed to go on his way the next day, there was no more talk of prying into political secrets.

When your editor was experimenting with conscious -- not trance -- mediumship in 1964, and presumably had Jack Kennedy on the "line", I asked about the assassination plot and who masterminded it. "That is [25] forbidden," is the reply I got. "They are still watching me." "They" presumably being the soul-less human monsters who inspired and guided his physical plane assassins from the Lower Astral plane. They watch to see if any damaging, incriminating information is being channeled into the physical world, then destroy anyone who tries to make use of it here, to neutralize the power of MIRO.

ARE YOU TRUE-MINDED OR ARE YOU NICE-MINDED?

Dion Fortune reminded her students of the Cabala of this important distinction years ago in London. It is still true today. It takes intellectual courage to tread the Hermetic Path, the Path of the Mind, of knowledge; and anyone who endeavors to Rend the Veil which hides the invisible worlds from us comes face to face with evil, positive evil, Dion Fortune called it; and nice-minded people refuse to face up to it. These are the Mystics and their name is legion.

It is their refusal to face the facts of life which makes it impossible to "seal the door where evil dwells", as D.K. has asked through Alice Bailey -- and thus have delayed the Reappearance of the Christ.

So bad was the situation in 1942 that the Occult Hierarchy was prepared to abandon mankind to its fate. We have this surprising revelation from D.K. in "The Externalization of the Hierarchy", on the discovery and exploitation of atomic power, page 493: "The imminence of this release -- inevitable and under direction -- produced an enormous tension in hierarchical circles because (to express the idea colloquially) a race was on between the Dark Forces and the Forces of Light to acquire possession of the techniques necessary to bring about this liberation of needed energy.

"Had the Dark Forces triumphed, and had the Axis powers obtained possession of the needed scientific formulas, it would have been a major planetary disaster. The released energy would have been used first of all to bring about the complete destruction of all opposing the forces of evil, and then it would have been prostituted to the preservation of an increasingly materialistic and non-idealistic civilization. Germany could not be trusted with using this power, for all her motives were compelling wrong.

"You might here fall back on the trite religious platitude that the innate good in humanity and mankind's inherent divinity would eventually have triumphed, because naught can finally overcome the universal trend to good. You are prone to forget that if the evil forces possess potencies which can destroy form in the three worlds on such a wide scale that the souls of advanced aspirants and disciples, and those initiates seeking incarnation, cannot come into outer expression; during a particular world crisis, then you have direfully affected the time-schedule of the evolutionary process; you will have greatly delayed (perhaps for millennia of years) the manifestation of the kingdom of God. The time had come for that manifestation, and hence the powerful activity of the Dark Forces.

"This attempt to hinder the planned progress constituted a definite menace and indicated a supreme danger and problem. The Evil [26] Forces were closer to success than any of you have ever dreamed. They were so close to success in 1942 that there were four months when the members of the spiritual Hierarchy had made every possible arrangement to withdraw from human contact for an indefinite and unforeseen period of time. The plans for a closer contact with the evolutionary process in the three worlds and the effort to blend and fuse the two divine centers, the Hierarchy and Humanity, into one working, collaborating whole seemed doomed to destruction. Their fusion would have meant the appearance of the Kingdom of God on earth.

"The obstacles of this fusion, owing to the active tension of the Dark Forces seemed at that time insuperable. We believed that man would go down to defeat, owing to his selfishness and his misuse of the principle of free will. We made all preparations to withdraw, and yet at the same time we struggled to get humanity to choose rightly and to see the issues clearly.

THE CRY FOR LIGHT WAS ANSWERED

"The necessity to withdraw was averted. I may not say in what manner, beyond telling you that the Lords of Liberation took certain unexpected steps. This they were led to do owing to the invocative powers of humanity, used consciously by those upon the side of the will-to-good and unconsciously by all men of good will. Owing to these steps, the efforts of those fighting in the realm of science for the establishing of true knowledge and right human relations were aided. The trend of the power to know and to discover (a definite form of energy) was deflected away from the demanding evocative minds of those seeking to destroy the world of men, leading to a form of mental paralysis. Those seeking to emphasise the right values and to save humanity were simultaneously stimulated to the point of success."

The mind of the great German physicist, Werner Heisenberg, was not paralyzed. When Hitler's high command came to him for advice on developing a super explosive, he and his colleagues deflected them away from the atomic fission avenue by saying that such a nebulous goal wasn't worth the time and effort.

"When the sun moved northward that year (1942), the great White Lodge knew that the battle had been won. Their preparations were halted and the Masters then organised for renewed effort (through Their disciples) to bring about those conditions wherein that which was new and that which was in line with loving divine purpose could freely move forward. The war was not won by the surrender of Germany. That was only the outer result of inner happenings. The war was won by the Forces of Light when the mental potency of the Forces of Evil was overcome and the 'energy of the future' was directed or impelled by Those Who were seeking the higher human values and the spiritual good of mankind. . . There was a clearly directed inflow of extra-planetary energy released by the Lords of Liberation. . . through the impact of this energy upon the atomic substance being dealt with by the investigating scientists. . . "

THOSE INVESTIGATING SCIENTISTS FORTY YEARS AGO

Yes, the birthday of the Nuclear Age the Master D.K. referred to in "The Externalization of the Hierarchy" on August 9, 1945 occurred three years earlier, December 2, 1942, under the stands of the University of Chicago. The sun certainly had moved northward by the time Fermi, Greenewalt, Wigner, Neil and other atomic physicists were ready to prove that a chain reaction could sustain itself.

"What the Chicago group did was to demonstrate that if enough radioactive uranium was assembled in just the right way, the emitted neutrons would split other uranium atoms, which would release still more neutrons and more energy, according to Einstein's equation, E=mc squared.

"Fermi, walked around with a six-inch slide rule, making calculations on the back, and saying 'Pull the rod out another foot', Greenewalt said. Meanwhile, Geiger counters measured the radiation that the reactor was putting out. As the control rod, which absorbs neutrons, was withdrawn, the clicks from the instruments became more rapid. But each time the clicking leveled off.

"At 11:35 in the morning when the Geiger counters were clicking rapidly, the reaction suddenly stopped. The response level of an automatic safety rod had been set too low, and it had slammed into the reactor, killing the reaction. 'I'm hungry,' said Fermi. 'Let's go to lunch.'

"At 2 p.m. the scientists were back. Fermi told George Weil, who was handling the control rod, to move it up. At 2:50, Fermi ordered that it be withdrawn another foot. At 3:20 he asked for six more inches and then resumed calculating. After five minutes Fermi told Weil, 'Pull it out another foot,' and said to Arthur Compton, 'This is going to do it. Now it will become self-sustaining. The trace will climb and continue to climb. It will not level off.' And it did!

"This is the chain reaction that makes possible nuclear weapons and nuclear power and a host of scientific and medical applications that have benefited humanity.

"'In the realm of biology and medicine, the fallout from the Fermic chain reaction has been pure unadulterated joy,' said Dr. Henry S. Kaplan of the Stanford University Medical Center. . . 'For better or worse the nuclear age began here in Chicago 40 years ago and the world has never been the same since,' said Marvin L. Goldberger, president of Caltech, who earned his Ph.D from the University of Chicago in 1948."

But atomic fission has been a mixed blessing. Senior physicist Leo Szilard "agitated extensively for the atomic scientists to be heard in Washington while decisions were being made about the use of the bomb". The Chicago group tried to influence Presidents Roosevelt and Truman not to use the bomb on the Japanese but only to demonstrate it to Japanese officials. "Their view was rejected. It was felt that the bomb [28] was unreliable and, if the demonstration failed, the interests of peace would not be served. Nor were the atomic scientists able to persuade the world after the war was over to place control of nuclear weapons in the hands of an international agency.

THEY HAD NO CHOICE

"The question that hangs over all the atomic scientists and all those who were associated with them is whether they regret their participation, whether, given the choice, they would do it again. Almost all of them here said this week they had no choice. There was a war and there was fear that the Nazis would get the atomic bomb first. Furthermore, they said, if they had not discovered this law of nature, eventually someone else would have.

"'My personal belief is that knowledge is always better than ignorance,' said Robert Sachs, a professor of physics at the University of Chicago. 'Knowing is what distinguishes us from the lower beasts.'

"Glenn Seaborg, former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, and former chancellor of the University of California at Berkeley, said, 'If the chain reaction hadn't been observed on Dec. 2 in the U.S., it would have been observed somewhere else within a matter of weeks. Do I wish that God had created the universe differently? The answer is yes.'" (Reported by Lee Dembart, science writer for the Los Angeles "Times", from the Chicago, Illinois convention of nuclear scientists, Nov. 29 - Dec. 4, 1982)

CAN A CHRISTIAN OBEY ORDERS TO KILL NON-COMBATANTS?

"A nuclear freeze, a plan to force the United States and the Soviet Union to stop additional development of nuclear weapons carried in 8 of 9 states (in the November 1982 elections). . . The nuclear freeze issue is expected to a major one in coming years, and its initial endorsement by the bishops of the Roman Catholic Church, in a draft of a pastoral letter released near the end of the campaign may have a tremendous potential impact. (It) is intended to advise Roman Catholic on the moral dimensions of the nuclear war issue, and it has provoked widespread comment and dissent both within and outside of America's largest religious community.

"The statement, called 'The Challenge to Peace', places the church hierarchy at odds with the Reagan Administration, which has been assiduously courting Catholic Church and laity support for its proposals on tuition tax credits, abortion, school prayer and other issues. The Administration has reportedly asked for a meeting with the bishop's committee of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops which prepared the statement. (One of the five drafters is Detroit's-Auxiliary Bishop, Thomas Gumbleton, who broke another precedent when he formally endorsed George McGovern for President in 1972).

"The bishops called for 'immediate, bilateral, verifiable agreements to halt the testing, production and deployment of new strategic systems.' Two statements that were certain to engender controversy included: [29] 'No Christian can rightfully carry out orders or policies deliberately aimed at killing noncombatants', and 'As citizens we wish to affirm our loyalty to our country and its ideals, yet we must hold to the universal principle proclaimed by the church'.

CATHOLIC BISHOPS TURNED LIBERAL? HEAVEN FORBID!

"The time of the statement also provoked controversy. 'Time' magazine commented: 'The bishops' letter is, intentionally or not, highly sympathetic to Democratic positions on nuclear arms. Indeed, the language used. . . is nearly identical to a resolution, backed mainly by Democrats, that narrowly failed a House resolution vote (204-202) last August'. While some critics suggested that the statement was patently designed to influence the November elections, the bishops strenuously denied it. The chairman, Chicago Archbishop Joseph Bernardin, said, 'I am sure no one really believes that we made public our draft to influence the elections'. Added co-author Bishop John O'Connor, 'I, for one, never even thought of the possible impact on the elections'.

"The statement unleashed vigorous criticism from conservative Catholics. Columnist William F. Buckley (Lay Jesuit and Prince of the Church who helped form the New Right) said he 'resented what must be viewed as a certain political opportunism' and suggested that bishops 'do not enjoy a special knowledge on these matters'. Historian James Hitchcock of St. Louis University (a Jesuit school) said, 'It makes me shiver when it is implied that we should allow ourselves if necessary to be conquered'. The American Enterprise Institute's Catholic scholar Michael Novak said he was 'amazed' by the 'profound anti-Americanism of the document' and angrily added, 'Their position would make war much more likely. . . You don't qualify as a peacemaker just because you speak words of peace'.

PRESIDENT REAGAN'S UNDERHANDED DIPLOMACY

"The Administration's concern on this issue was symbolized by a secret mission to the Vatican undertaken in early November by General Vernon Walters, a Catholic and a veteran U.S. Ambassador-at-large. Walters confirmed his quiet visit to Pope John Paul II after columnists Evans and Robert Novak got wind of it. Evans and Novak charged that Walter's mission was to secure papal help in 'blunting the attack of the Roman Catholic Church's American Bishops on the U.S. nuclear deterrent'. Evans-Novak reported that 'high U.S. officials' fear possible 'incidents of Catholic soldiers and sailors refusing nuclear connected service' and also fear that the bishops' statement 'unwittingly or not fits Soviet propaganda and strategy while undermining the United States government's moral stature in its own country'.

"U.S. Secretary of the Navy John F. Lehman, a Catholic, previously charged that his church's leaders were a 'zealous, uninformed and unrepresentative minority' which is 'invalidly applying valid religious values'. Many mainline Protestant and Jewish groups, plus such evangelical gadflies as 'Sojourner' magazine, agree with the bishops. The Episcopal Bishop of Washington, John Walker, issued a pastoral statement in his diocese's parishes, endorsing a favorable vote on the [30] District of Columbia referendum (on a nuclear freeze) just before the November 2nd balloting." ANOTHER MARTYR TO THE FLYING SAUCER PHENOMENON

"Worst UFO witness hushup: When the Air Force ordered airline pilot Capt. John Woods of Chicago, Illinois to stop talking about his sighting, he rented a public address system and spoke from a soapbox in a public park for three days, taking only short breaks for food and drink. Unfortunately, he lost his airline job after being convicted for public intoxication." (James Moseley's "Saucer Smear", Sept. 5, 1982)

A FAMOUS CONTACTEE DISCREDITS HERSELF

"Yes, I believe Betty Hill's kidnapping by a Flying Saucer crew to be true. I have ordered her taped lecture 'After the Interrupted Journey' to see what she is saying to the public now. I have been out to her 'remote part of New Hampshire'. All I have seen is is airplanes! She seems to think UFOs are stealing planes. Betty is bringing people to a spot where she watches a landed UFO sitting on railroad tracks. I went out there to see this UFO to try to communicate with it. Sure enough it was sitting on the tracks.

"I looked at it through a pair of binoculars and it looked like some kind of light. After walking about a mile down the tracks and looking through it with my binoculars I discovered it to be a reflection on the tracks from a light in some one's barnyard! Betty says if you approach it, the UFO will disappear. True, but the real truth is that the barnyard light is not always on. Her UFO lands there anywhere from the time the sun goes down until about 10 p.m. -- until the farmers go to bed, in reality. Do you think she really believes this fantasy she tells? I've been trying for years to interview her."

If you get an interview, be prepared for a disappointment. Betty obviously does believe what she sees and tells -- and it is disappointing -- and it saves MIRO another job of character assassination. Your experience reminds me of my own with over-enthusiastic UFO researchers. A Las Cruces, New Mexico group leader took me out into the desert at dusk to point out a steady-burning yellow light several miles away. To her it was a UFO. To me it was a railway signal light. At night in Phoenix, Arizona a group leader walked me to the corner of the block, at night, and pointed toward the South Mountains several miles away. Sure enough a glowing light appeared for a few moments then disappeared. After a few moments the same phenomenon in the same place. To her this was a UFO. To me it was the headlights of an automobile rounding a curve on a mountain road, thus the predictability -- but I could not shake the leader's belief in what she was seeing.

"A good friend of Betty Hill is Mary Ann Shenefield. She claims she was abducted twice. The aliens gave her a crystal but told her not to look at it. She did anyhow and became totally blind at the age of 11. She can now, at the age of 41, see Genetic Codes. Steven Spielberg, [31] producer of 'E.T.', is writing a book about her.

"I do have proof that UFOs are landing in the area where Betty and Barney Hill got abducted (Hiway 93 near Ashland, New Hampshire, Sept. 19, 1961. See John Fuller's "Interrupted Journey".) It will only be a matter of time before I make contact. First I will have to work off some bad karma. I think contact will be achieved by the true Hertzian wave I have discovered. I know a person who was in communication with UFOs for six years. He said they were of the Devil; so he has broken communication with them. I think there are good and bad as well. Betty Hill's may have been bad. Her abduction spot was on a Grid Line, which UFOs travel on."

"Relative to sub-atomic particles. I am presently studying crystal structure of gem stones, both natural and synthetic states. I am working on a theory that since everything is energy, and matter is coagulated energy (E=MC squared and MC squared = E) there must be some method of 'coagulating' that energy, and/or dispersing that matter without setting off a nuclear explosion. Since matter consists of three states: gas, liquid, solid, and since it is possible to 'grow' crystals in a liquid medium, I am going to do research on growing crystals using a frequency generator tuned to various frequencies. Those tuned vibrations should have an effect on the manner in which the crystals arrange their lattice matrix.

"If this is proven, I will then begin experimenting on gaseous substances and solid substances. If it is proven that a tuned frequency acts as a catalyst on sub-atomic particles to make them form into matter and/or dematerialize, here will be a discovery second only to Einstein's Unified Field Theory. Each time he pulled it out it felt to her as though her heart and entrails were being pulled out with it, causing her to moan in spiritual pain. She frankly called this a wooing and as a result of this divine copulation she experienced a spiritual orgasm or ecstasy, which left her in a stupor for days! The rapture was so noticeable her sister nuns talked about it, greatly to her distress.

"A supernatural love for God was implanted in her, robbing her of all power of action, coming in mighty impulses which were neither uncontrollable devotion nor emotional unrest. The source of this fire was controlled with gentle tears, but not otherwise could this 'wounding' of the soul be described. THE SEVEN SUB-LEVELS OF THE PHYSICAL WORLD

The above chart of the Ethers is from Max Heindel's "Cosmo-Conception". Science now speaks of "matter" in the 4th State, Plasma. Its existence was proven with the sustained atomic reaction in the pile of uranium under the stands of the football field of the University of Chicago, Dec. 2, 1942. It is your editor's understanding that the 6th Ether, Light Ether, is the medium which carries radio and television waves. Conscious control of matter, the "Uri Geller" effect, comes from the Aether of the Wise, the 7th Ether, which controls all below it in the physical world. This is the goal of Tantric Buddhism; and, as psychic warfare is now raging between at least eight nations here on earth -- according to Dr. Puharich -- it would appear that the mind benders of government agencies, KGB, CIA, ONI, etc. are developing their own version of Tantric Buddhism. THE POST OFFICE CAN NOW BAN THE BIBLE FROM THE MAILS

Washington (UPI) Dec. 13, 1982: "The House passed a bill designed to strengthen the U.S. Postal Service's power to protect the public from mail fraud. The measure establishes civil penalties for evasion of orders to halt the use of false representation in selling goods or services through the mail. The bill further gives the Postal Service new subpoena and investigative powers, enabling it to move more quickly than it now can against suspected mail racketeers. . . "

HR7044 is a new police state law which gives the Post Office "broad new authority" to ban the Bible, any other church or religious books, or health books its Administrative law judges, Judicial Officers, or PO Inspectors find to be "contrary to the weight of informed medical and scientific opinion". There is no scientific evidence to prove that Jesus Christ ever existed, or that anyone survives death; so such religious claims could be labeled false under this new Post Office law passed by the House; and mail order sales of Bibles and other religious literature could be banned.

The Post Office now has authority to invade the privacy of every church or health organization in America, without a warrant, and demand to inspect, copy, and make a permanent computer file of any membership rolls, donations, financial accounts, Bibles, scriptures, missionary or fund raising brochures that postal inspectors allege are relevant to any case they have under investigation. Members can be fined up to $20,000 a day or over $7 million a year if they continue to distribute Bibles or any other books which have been banned by a PO "cease and desist" or "stop" order.

While America's kept press continues to feature the ruthless actions of a Communist dictatorship in Poland on the front pages of its papers every day, the suppressive actions of its own right-wing government are given only passing attention on the inside pages. The Congressmen who passed HR7044 must have forgotten that the scientific books of Wilhelm Reich were piled up on a beach in Maine in the late 1940s, and burned by the inspectors of the Food and Drug Administration, and Reich himself was eliminated "with extreme prejudice" in a Federal prison. Fortunately, enough copies of his works survived this crypto-Nazi book-burning that they are now available again.

THE LEAST REPORTED STORY OF 1982

"This is my last letter to you as President of the National Organization for Women. First, let me share the great political message you helped to send: 'We Will Remember In November!

"With those words NOW launched its unprecedented post-ERA political campaign to increase the number of pro-women's rights office-holders in state legislatures and in the U.S. Congress. Thanks to your support and work of thousands of additional NOW volunteers, the voters truly did remember! In fact, the political gains made by women's rights advocates may be the least reported story of the 1982 elections. Let me share with you some key facts. NOW/PAC supported 109 candidates at the congressional level. Our initial, post-election analysis shows that:

"61% of NOW's candidates were elected.

"Women's Rights advocates gained 21 seats in the House of Representatives.

"75% of the newly elected Congresspeople support women's rights.

"In critical Senate and House races across the country, our preliminary analysis, supported by that of the New York 'Times' and other media, indicates that women -- the 'gender' gap -- were decisive on numerous statewide races including the governorships of New York and Texas.

"During the ERA Countdown Campaign in the targeted states of Florida, Illinois and North Carolina (the ones that voted down the Equal Rights Amendment), we pledged to 'Remember In November'. We did. So did the voters. In Florida, in June, the ERA was defeated by a 23-17 vote in the State senate. Of the 23 senators who voted 'No', 10 will not be returning to office! Eight of the 10 were replaced with pro-ERA senators. A count in the Florida Senate now shows 23 pro-ERA legislators, a winning majority.

"The 1982 elections also resulted in more than doubling the number of women in the Florida Senate, from four to nine. Eight of these nine are pro-ERA.

"In Illinois, as a result of the November election, there are now 36 pro-ERA legislators in the state Senate and 75 pro-ERA legislators in the House. These gains represent enough votes to meet even the three-fifths voting requirements of the Illinois legislature. In the Illinois Senate, as in the Florida Senate, the number of women doubled, from 4 to 8. Of these eight women, seven are pro-ERA. In all, of the 79 NOW/EQUALITY/PAC-supported candidates for the Illinois state legislature, 68 won!

"In North Carolina, Jesse Helms, the leader of the New Right, and his Congressional Club lost in all of the congressional races they entered, while NOW PAC-supported candidates won in several significant races. And, in the North Carolina state legislature, both NOW and the voters remembered as NOW/EQUALITY/PAC entered 35 races and won 26 of [35] them. Your help made this possible.

"As I watched the television commentators and read the newspaper columnists in the week following the election, I was absolutely certain of one thing: women have become a significant and powerful force in American politics, and NOW and its members like you have played an important and leading part in that historical development. . .
