CORRESPONDENCE OF ROLF TELANO - THE FLYING DISCS.
(Note: "Rolf Telano" is an electronics engineer resident in the Middle West. He has long had personal contacts of a psychic nature but has never publicised them except through BSR publications and under a pseudonym. A brochure by him, under our title "Release 1-B-52," was published in mimeo. in January 1952, and awakened much interest by its detailed description of the types of aeroforms used by the Nors, or planetary Guardians. We believe that the following excerpts, from a recent letter by R.T., are of equal importance. -ml).

This is partially in reply to your letter concerning the proposed booklet about the aeroforms, and the same cautions apply here as in the case of the material printed by you in 1-B-52. That is: any statement must necessarily be incomplete and over-simplified, since the possible exceptions are without number. What has been attempted is to present a reasonably correct typical picture. The descriptions of the craft have been limited (with the exception of the circular lunar fliers) to the craft used by the Nors. Since they are the assigned Watchers or Guardians at the present time, their craft are the most numerous and the nearest typical. However, there are countless other varieties of other craft which come here occasionally, for various reasons. If their intent is not detrimental to the people of this planet or the general welfare of the whole, they are permitted to come here and freely carry out their plans.
I fear that I have nothing of special importance to add at this time, but I do have a description of the "jet engine" used in certain varieties of these craft, which you may use if you see fit, though perhaps it is too technical to be of general interest. It can be released without reservation - for the reason that our planetary scientists cannot duplicate either the ray or the material from which the reactor is made.
To explain how the reactor is made, I shall have to begin by pointing out, that by subjecting any material to an external vibratory force (or ray) of the right frequency, the cohesive properties of the atoms are temporarily broken down - thus converting the material into pure energy. This energy can be transported to any distant point and allowed to "rematerialize" in its original pattern, in which case you have a "teleport". Or it can be shorted out to ground, in which case you have a very destructive weapon - a Dis Ray. Or it can be 'packed in' to some other material, and allowed to rematerialize in the form of the "pattern object" - thus producing a material of any density and any desired physical or chemical properties. The "reactor" is made by this method. A pattern is first made of some easily worked material & the energy of other materials is then packed into it until the desired properties have been obtained. Obviously, due to possible uses of this technique for evil purposes, it is not likely to be taught to Earthlings for some time to come.
Some may ask why they use such a crude method of driving their craft if they could be driven by properly applied thought energy -- as they can be. Perhaps this could best be answered by asking why the average American will jump into his car and drive a block to the store when he could walk quite easily -- in other words, mere habit. There are some ancient races which make a fad, in fact, almost a cult, of doing everything possible by mental means alone. However, the Nors have usually gone in the opposite direction and use mechanism whenever possible. It is their belief that such a course leaves their mental powers more free to use when it is necessary - that is, for things which cannot be done mechanically.
Drives of this type are used for comparatively short journeys, of course. For very long trips a form of teleportation would be used; either with or without inter-plane conversion, as required. Due to the very great speeds which these craft can attain, a trip to Luna, or Venus, or Mars is a comparatively short journey. They are not, as scientists here believe, limited to the speed of light. Some day, perhaps, some bright scientist will discover that when he eliminates the "mass" factor from his acceleration formula, he has eliminated all limitations, and an infinitesimal force will produce an infinite velocity.
Since communications, supposedly from the "Disc People" are now coming in from all angles, it might be well to add the caution to evaluate them carefully before accepting them at face value -- and to not take what is said too literally even if the source is believed to be reliable. You have noted that when they tell some one that they come from Venus, it is not necessarily so. They may have come from Venus or Mars in their material form, since both are convenient and much used bases, as is also Luna. Or they may merely be giving an answer which they think will be acceptable to their listener, since it would get too involved to try to explain the real facts in detail. The same applies to many other things. They may be speaking the literal truth, or they may be merely giving what they believe to be the most nearly accurate analogy which would be understandable to their listeners.
There seems to be a great deal of confusion on all points, even when coming from very good sources. For example: the 'planet behind the moon, with conditions similar to those on earth'. There is definitely no planet behind the moon at the present time, either on the material or astral plane. There could be one on some intermediate plane, of course, but I have not run into any evidence in support of it. However, there are inhabited areas on the far side of the moon which might be described as 'behind the moon' which we can see. Also, conditions are maintained, by artificial means, about the same as here. It seems likely that this is what the communicator meant. Since natural conditions on Luna are not favorable for physio-chemical life, none of the aboriginal inhabitants remain there. Several groups, however, maintain bases and other installations there, for various uses. These are usually fully manned, and although the crews are usually rotated at stated times, you would find quite a sizable 'population' at any time. The original Lunians are among the groups which came to earth in prehistoric times... But that is another story.
A very small stream of fuel is injected into the reactor thru the port at the left. At the focal point it is acted upon by a dis-integrator ray which breaks down the inherent cohesion of the atoms of the fuel. This causes a very great volumetric expansion and a very high pressure within the reactor. This escapes at the opposite end and gives the reaction thrust. The action is controlled both by the amount of fuel injected and the strength of the Dis ray. The fuel injection pressure must, of course, be higher than the pressure within the reactor, which however is very high in terms of "pounds per square inch". However, the fuel stream is microscopic in diameter, so that the actual power required is very small.
Actually, any material which can be reduced to a liquid or a sub-microscopic powder can be used as fuel. Certain elements, of the "heavy metals" group, are avoided due to the fact that they produce long-lived radioactive end products, thus resulting in atmospheric contamination. Air, compressed to a liquid, or water are the favorite fuels when available. Certain light metals are used when these cannot be secured. In actual practice, almost any fuel will produce a small amount of radioactive end products (due to impurities), but these are absorbed by adding a small amount of colloidal copper to the fuel. Mercury could be used, as described in Leslie's "Flying Saucers Have Landed", but would produce some very undesirable end products. However, this form of drive is very ancient, and mercury might very possibly have been used by some of the earlier (and less ethical) peoples. It has the advantage of being already a liquid, and has a very great inherent energy.
The reactor itself is made of a very dense material, by methods which scientists on this planet could not duplicate at the present time.
