Experimental Transmission of Communicator Signatures
from one Automatic Script Writer to Another

Dr. Philip S. Haley

The transfer of the signature of a purporting communicator ("Immanuel Kant of Konigsberg") from the writing of Miss Pauline Jacobson to that of the wife of the writer, Mrs. P.S. Haley, occurred shortly after the death of Miss Jacobson in 1928. The writer had received thru Miss Jacobson's writing material which he regarded as high grade, during a period of about 9 years prior to 1928. The experiment was an attempt to carry on this communication, and seemed to be successful so far as the duplication of the signature was concerned only, the content of the writing of Mrs Haley being of a different character personality than the Jacobson-Kant personality.

Miss Jacobson was formerly a news writer and feature writer, had studied philosophy in college, but was never sure whether "Kant" was a spirit or part of her own subliminal consciousness. She inclined to the latter view, but when writing did not seem to know what Kant or her other guides had written, until she read over her own script, after a sitting. The same is true of Mrs. Haley's writing.

Mrs. Haley, prior to the coming of 'Kant', used to produce a fine Spencerian script purporting to be written by a communicator named Maggie. When Kant appeared in her writing, 'Maggie' disappeared. She temporarily reappeared, however, at the request of this writer, but only after some urging. After a few appearances of 'Kant', Pauline came, and signed her name in a signature closely resembling her natural characters, but not exactly so. From that time on, Kant or Pauline, or Pauline and Kant, have been the signatures.

Method of Experimentation:    The present writer simply concentrates on the thought of Kant's signature taking the place of Maggie's. He and his wife have long been in close telepathic contact, so he knew the method was simple, tho admittedly he does not understand fully the mechanics of telepathy. The experiment was successful from the first attempt.

Checking the Experiment:    The writer consulted Mr. Chauncey McGovern, a personal friend, parapsychologist, and well-known court expert in handwriting; he pronounced the two signatures identical, and said that the one who wrote the first must have written the other. The experiment was written up for the A.S.P.R. Journal, but the ms was lost in the ASPR offices. The writer therefore sends a brief account to Round Robin. Mrs Haley had never before produced a Kant signature, altho she knew Miss Jacobson well. The writer told her nothing of the experiment he was trying until it had succeeded.

In Summary: Dr Haley receives communications signed Kant thru Pauline J. After the death of Pauline J., Mrs Haley received messages signed Kant in 'identical' script, and others signed Pauline. The 2nd Kant signatures appeared after Dr. Haley had made mental demand for them without informing his wife. It was only the signature which thus reappeared - not the Kant-Pauline personality of messages... A Query: On whom was Dr. Haley's mental suggestion operative?
